Exonerating the Innocent

While most individuals who pass through our judicial system are guilty of the crimes that they are charged with, there are too many who are serving prison time for a crime that they did not commit. DNA has exonerated hundreds of individuals across the country, many of whom have served ten or more years in prison. While DNA represents just a small fraction of evidence in criminal cases, DNA evidence constitutes the basis for more than 50% of all exonerations. Thus we know that there are many non DNA wrongful convictions.

The exoneration of Kareem Bellamy required massive resources. The judicial system simply refuses to acknowledge that a mistake could have been made. We know that wrongful convictions are caused in part by overzealous prosecutors with tunnel vision and by inadequate defense representation.

There are few organizations that work to exonerate the innocent. The task is too costly and the barriers to overcome are seemingly impossible. However, we have found that there is no greater exhilaration than to give an innocent person a new life. This office is committed to trying to establish a systemic way to address the injustices within our judicial system that causes these horrific results.

We attach newspaper reports regarding Mr. Bellamy's wrongful conviction and other resources you may find of interest.

After an exoneration, the indivuduals are thrown back into the community with absolutelly no resourses. If interested in helping Mr. Bellamy or our new-found organization please respond to the addresses below making sure to indicate whether the help you are offering is to Mr. Bellamy or to the Exonerating the Innocent Organization.

Of course we appreciate any individuals interested in joining the organization, in any capacity.

Finally we have just started up this website and hope over the next few weeks to have the site fully developed.

Please refer to our News Stories regarding recent developments in the Bellamy case.
